
Lab owner was convicted for submitting genetic tests that were medically unnecessary and procured through kickbacks. An Atlanta lab owner conspired with patient brokers, telemedicine companies, and call centers to target Medicare beneficiaries with telemarketing calls falsely stating that Medicare covered expensive cancer genetic tests. The lab, in turn, paid kickbacks and bribes to obtain signed doctors’ orders authorizing the tests from telemedicine companies. The illegal kickback payments were disguised as fees for advertising services.
