Christopher W. David

CPA/ABV, ASA, MBA
Managing Partner

Mr. David is the founder and Managing Partner of HVG, which he founded in 2010. Chris David has more than 23 years of professional experience in the areas of business valuation, FMV opinions, commercial damages and accounting. Mr. David has extensive knowledge in the valuation of private healthcare companies, intangible assets and service arrangements for regulatory compliance, federal and state tax compliance, litigation, marital dissolution and mergers and acquisitions.

Chris is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), a professional designation awarded by the American Society of Appraisers and is tested and certified in the practice of Business Valuation. The designation requires proof of extensive business appraisal knowledge, completion of course work, submission of business valuation reports to the Board of Examiners, and five years full time business valuation experience. Mr. David is also accredited in business valuation (ABV), a professional designation awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Prior to founding HVG, Chris held positions at EY and HealthCare Appraisers.

Andrea M. Ferrari, JD, MPH

Partner and General Counsel

Andrea serves as in-house General Counsel of HVG and is a Partner leading FMV and compensation valuation service lines.

Andrea brings to her work broad and deep industry experience that gives her helpful perspective on issues of compensation and business valuation and their intersection with legal and regulatory requirements. Her perspective has been developed through a career spanning several decades, during which she has at different times served clients as counsel and as a nationally known healthcare valuation and compensation consultant. Her combined experience helps her to quickly issue-spot and provide practical, strategic and problem-solving advice with a mind to effectively addressing both business goals and regulatory compliance issues. She has had the privilege to work with and be trusted by some of the largest and well-known health systems, physician organizations and life sciences companies in the United States, as well as numerous Fortune® 500 and Fortune® 100 companies.

Ms. Ferrari is frequently called upon as an author, speaker, instructor and subject matter expert on topics related to fair market value and commercial reasonableness and their role in healthcare regulatory compliance, investigations and litigation. She has authored nearly 100 publications and presentations for national organizations such as the American Health Law Association, American Bar Association, American Association of Provider Compensation Professionals, and Health Care Compliance Association, as well as various state bar associations.

Andrea is a member of the Florida Bar Health Law and Business Law sections, and of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). She is also a longtime member of the American Health Law Association (AHLA), for which she serves as an arbitrator for the dispute resolution service, focusing on compensation-related disputes. She has previously served in numerous leadership roles in AHLA, including chairing the Fair Market Value Affinity Group and the Public Hospitals and Health Systems Group, and serving as a founding member of a joint working group of AHLA and NACVA. This working group was to address the evolving intersection of legal, regulatory and valuation questions in the healthcare industry.

Ms. Ferrari was previously Principal and General Counsel for a national healthcare compensation consulting and solutions provider. Prior to that, she was Partner in the corporate practice group and healthcare industry team for a large national law firm, and Partner at a well-known national healthcare valuation and consulting firm, where she had a 15-year tenure and developed and led service lines focused on value-based provider compensation (including, in particular, in the context of ACOs and clinically integrated networks (CINs)); clinical research arrangements; provider recruitment and retention incentives in shortage areas and for rural and essential hospitals; and compensation and contracting for uniquely experienced, nationally and/or globally known “rockstar” and executive healthcare providers who earn in excess of $1 million per year. Earlier in her career, she served as associate general counsel of a public health system that delivered rural and regional trauma care, in the in-house legal department of an urban academic medical center, and as a clinical research coordinator and consultant to the life sciences industry. She also spent time in private practice in traditional “Big Law” in the corporate and healthcare practice group of an AmLaw100 firm. 

Representative Services:

  • Compensation review for compliance with fraud & abuse laws, tax-exempt regulations, antitrust laws, and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Support for due diligence processes; post transaction integrations; and circumstances when specialized compensation and valuation expertise is needed on a transactional, fractional or interim basis.
  • Assisting clients in transition to value-based payments, including review of compensation plans and incentive payments in the context of coordinated care and provider alignment strategies, such as clinically integrated networks, ACOs, gainsharing arrangements and “Hospital Quality and Efficiency Programs”.
  • Review of clinical research arrangements, including assisting clients with compliant budgeting, compensation review processes and contracting.
  • Due diligence review for high value compensation arrangements, including for Thought Leaders, executives and uniquely experienced providers of national or international renown.
  • Addressing unique recruitment, contracting and compensation issues for safety-net and rural provider organizations, including public hospitals and health systems.
  • Development and review of medical director and consulting agreements, as author on this topic for multiple editions of the AHLA/BVR Guide to Healthcare Valuation.
  • Compensation analysis for due diligence, internal investigations and litigation support.
  • Development and review of compensation arrangements for emergency preparedness and response situations, including hazard pay and interim staffing.
  • Assistance with compensation dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitrations. 
  • Navigating the valuation of clinical data in licensing and sale transactions. 
  • Assisting clients with design and implementation of enterprise level compensation review policies and programs, including providing education to legal, finance and compensation staff.

Ashutosh Kharangate

Director of Quality of Earnings

Ash in a Chartered Accountant (CA) with more than 20 years of professional experience in the accounting and finance field. He has supervised and/or contributed to more than 200 QofE and Due Diligence reports in his career. Mr. Ashutosh served 4 years with PwC in the Merger & Acquisitions and Due Diligence departments. Ash has vast experience in the areas M&A, Business Performance Analytics, Market Research and Project Feasibility Studies.

Ash serves on the Managing Committee of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CII, Goa. He is also a Board Advisory Member on Global Chamber.

Gabriel Andrada

Senior Associate

Gabe Andrada has over 10 years of experience in valuation and healthcare consulting. Mr. Andrada focuses primarily on business valuations, FMV assessments of various physician arrangements, and tangible asset appraisals for compliance with the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute. Gabe earned his Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) credential at 22, and also holds Certified Specialist: Accounting and Finance (CSAF) and Certified Healthcare Business Consultant (CHBC) credentials. In 2021, he received the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts’ 30 Under Thirty Award. He holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California and graduated summa cum laude in Health Administration with a finance minor from California State University, Long Beach. Prior to joining HVG, Gabe held positions at CLA, Premier, and Vizient.

Stephanie Abbott

Operations Manager

Stephanie is the driving force behind the smooth operations at HVG. Prior to joining HVG, Steph worked in then compliance department at Optum in Denver. She is a distinguished professional and experienced operations manager who excels in optimizing operations and streamlining workflows, ensuring that daily tasks and long-term projects run smoothly and efficiently. Steph is an avid cyclist and a Senior Certified yoga instructor, dedicated to fostering wellness and balance. Her culinary adventures are rooted in the vibrant Kansas City Farmers Markets, where she indulges in the exploration of local produce, ingredients, and bakers.

Mike Roybal

IT Director

Michael Roybal serves as the IT Director at HVG, bringing 27 years of expertise in IT and network security. As a Microsoft Certified Partner, Michael has extensive knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem and plays a crucial role in enhancing HVG’s technological infrastructure. He leverages AI tools to optimize business processes and improve efficiency for HVG. With a focus on cybersecurity, Michael’s strategic vision ensures that HVG’s IT solutions are robust, secure, and tailored to drive growth and efficiency in the SMB market.

Mary Jo Houser

Controller

Mary Jo started her accounting career in 1982 at Rose Medical Center in Denver Colorado. After 3 years there, she started a small accounting/bookkeeping firm. Since 1985 she has been active in QuickBooks software training and consulting along with small to medium size business accounting management. She is skilled in analyzing, verifying and preparing reports and following best practice accounting procedures. In 2005 she received her MBA from Regis University. When not working the accounting sector, Mary Jo and her husband enjoy the summers sailing on Lake Michigan and fall/winter sailing in southern California.
